Event Recap: Detroit Land Bank Authority Encourages Young Professionals to Buy in Detroit

Last week, the Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) hosted their Young Professionals Open House Mixer at Bamboo Detroit and, naturally, DYP was in attendance.  We met with several housing professionals and sought advice on financing, purchasing city owned properties, and resources available to first time home buyers.  If you’re not familiar, “The Detroit Land Bank is a public authority dedicated to returning Detroit’s vacant, abandoned, and foreclosed property to productive use. Their current programs include auction, side lot, community partnership and demolition.”

To support their mission, the DLBA sought to partner young professionals with housing professionals to provide assistance and gain clarity on securing their very own piece of Detroit.  Realtors, brokers, lenders, class operators, and home buyers networked for the sole purpose of getting more young professionals into our wonderful city to create vibrant, thriving communities for years to come.  Detroit is a vast city, comprised of several neighborhoods and communities and many young professionals may not be aware of their charm, let alone that they even exist.  Thankfully, the DLBA is hosting home tours of a few of these hidden gems and invite you to join them!

If you’ve ever considered purchasing a home in Detroit, now is the time to do so.  Once at record low sale prices, the market is on the upswing and prices are increasing.  We know how daunting the whole home buying process may seem, so we’re excited to present our new blog series-Home School 101: A Young Professional’s Guide to Purchasing Your First Home in Metro Detroit.  There are plenty of resources available in and around the city to facilitate your first purchase, so stay tuned to the DYP blog throughout May and June to get the tips.
