Young Professional Voices in Government: Conversation with Appointees to Michigan Coronavirus Taskforce on Racial Disparities (Online Event)

Let’s Detroit Ambassadors Lauren Bealore and Whitney Griffin are Appointees serving on the Michigan Coronavirus Taskforce on Racial Disparities. Lauren and Whitney will talk about the goals of the taskforce, the committees on which they serve, and share advice for other young professionals wishing to serve on future government advisories. 

The Michigan Coronavirus Taskforce on Racial Disparities was created by Executive Order 2020-55 to address the systemic issues causing the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 on African Americans in Michigan. 

This event is co-hosted in partnership with Black Young Professionals of Metro DetroitChallenge Detroit, Detroit Young ProfessionalsLet’s Detroit, and Young Nonprofit Professionals Network- Detroit. 

Lauren Bealore is the Michigan Political Director for America Votes. Bealore is a graduate of Michigan State University where she studied Social Relations and Policy and The New England College with a Master’s in Public Policy. She has extensive experience in the political field running campaigns at the federal, state and local level, and is the co-founder of Young, Ambitious and Beautiful. She is passionate about growing a stronger metro Detroit region by bridging community and business interests.

Whitney Griffin is the Director of Marketing and Communications at the Downtown Detroit Partnership. Griffin is a devoted community servant and lends her marketing, communications, advocacy, and organizing expertise to a variety of community causes to uplift Detroit. She currently serves on the board of the Detroit Institute of Arts' Founders Junior Council, First Independence Bank's Millennial Advisory Board, and the National Black MBA Association's Detroit Chapter, and was the President of Detroit Young Professionals from 2016-2019. 

Let’s Detroit is a talent initiative of the Detroit Regional Chamber which seeks to increase the number of college graduates who build their careers in the Detroit region. Young professional ambassadors serve as connectors to their industries, companies, neighborhoods, things to do, professional and social networks, and ways to get involved in community through www.letsdetroit.com and the Text-a-Detroiter platform.
